Durant Main Street Program added a new executive director just in time for the holiday season. Durant Local Tiffany Peirce will now be filling the position.
The program had been looking for a new director since Cecily Williams stepped down from the position several months ago. Main Street’s LoAnn Latona said Williams moved on to other things.
Latona said the board of directors felt that Pierce was the right fit for the program. Pierce is a graduate of Durant and a 2011 graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
She said that she has lived in Durant since she was five years old and remembers going to Main Street events such as the holiday events.
“This is home for me,” said Pierce, who plans to spend her life in her hometown.
A co-worker at the bank Pierce was employed is on the Main Street Board of Directors and told her about the position.
She said the co-worker knew this was the kind of work she liked to do and thought she would be good in the position.
Pierce said she studied marketing at Southeastern.
“I have a passion for that,” she said.
She said that she likes to get out and meet people and this job will allow her to do that while working for a good cause.
Pierce said she want to see Main Street grow. Both Pierce and Latona said the program is growing and plans are being made for new events for the holiday season.
Pierce is already working on the Colton’s Run event and attended her first board meeting Wednesday evening.
She will soon also dive into holiday events beginning with Main Street Trick or Treat on Halloween.
