CALERA - Raylee Rogers scored 20 points to pace the Lady Dawgs over Silo 60-42 on Tuesday at Bulldog Gymnasium.

With the frame of the new gym standing across the street, Calera opened its final season in the round-roof, cozy gym with the usual standing-room-only crowd.

The home fans weren’t disappointed. Dressing just eight players, Coach Lachelle Brown’s Lady Dawgs took an early 11-6 lead as both teams traded turnovers in the early going.

Kaylee Ervin beat the halftime buzzer to help Calera build a 27-13 lead at the break. She finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Silo outscored the Lady Dawgs 17-16 in the third but still trailed 43-30 going into the final eight minutes. Midway through the fourth, Rogers took a steal to the rack to help Calera build a 56-37 lead.

Freshman Maddie Partain scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds; senior Micaela Curtman had eight points and a team-high eight boards; Taylor Pickett had seven and four.

Silo (0-2) was led by Mary Grider’s 16 points. Riley Newton and Hannah Bourne scored nine each, and Bourne added a game-high nine rebounds. Katlyn Halley had five points and seven rebounds, while Karissa Marshall scored two and Baylee Rogers had a free throw.

Jewel Zukosky collected seven rebounds in the first half of the game for Coach Dax Simon’s Lady Rebels.
