Friday November 8 marked the end of an era for some in Durant as popular Dr. Braulio Cuesta delivered his last baby.

Cuesta has delivered approximately 12,000 babies in Durant over the past 32 years.

“It’s time for me to rest,” said Cuesta.

While Cuesta is hanging up his delivery gloves, he said he will continue his work as a gynecologist. The doctor plans to maintain a full daytime schedule as a gynecologist and focus on women’s health.

Cuesta said the only real difference in his life will be that he will now be able to sleep instead of being on call at night.

He said he plans to continue his work as a gynecologist until he feels he can no longer provide good quality service. He said he predicts at least another 10 years.

Cuesta said he had planned to end his delivery days at the end of October but was specifically asked to deliver this baby.

Cuesta decided since it was only a week past his deadline he would do it. Cuesta said delivering his last baby was both a happy and sad occasion for him. “I cried,” admitted the doctor with eyes still watery.

Dr. Cuesta said he wanted to extend his gratitude to the OB nurses who have helped him over the years and accredits the nurses for his success in delivering without ever losing a patient.

He also thanked the community of Durant for trusting him with their care.

“I love Durant. It’s a great place to live,” said Cuesta.
