The Durant Lions Cross Country teams competed in the class 5A state championship held at Edmond Santa Fe on Saturday. Jatelyn Wallace medaled at 10th place with a personal record of12:47 to lead her team to a 5th place finish out of 14 teams. Alberto Vazquez also medaled at 8th place with a time of 16:51 to lead his team to a 13th place finish.

There were 108 total runners in the girls division and 112 in the boys. The top ten finishers in each division are all-state runners which makes Wallace and Vazquez all-state athletes.

Wallace and Vazquez automatically qualified to compete at the Meet of Champions which consists of the top 50 runners in the state of Oklahoma.

Coach Reynolds and Coach Bokies are proud of the runners’ efforts this year and enjoy coaching this good group of kids. The cross country program is represented primarily by underclassman and will only graduate 4 seniors this year: Connor Akin, Gabe Louis, Caroline Loyd, and Jared Woods. These seniors will be recognized at senior night at the home football game Friday night.
