COLBERT -Coach Brad McKnight’s Calera Bulldogs are riding a five game win streak into the holiday break, taking their fifth game in six days on Tuesday with a 46-41 decision over Colbert.
Tanner Davis (13) and Bradley McKnight (12) combined for 25 points for the Bulldogs. Johnathan Diamond and Braxton Barton had eight each, Dakoda Adams and Riley Barton each scored a basket, and Riggin Rogers is credited with a free throw.
Colbert got 19 out of Peyton Whitehead, 10 from Darius Johnson, six for Garrett Work, five for McKlane Marquez and a free throw from Chance Haile. McKnight credited Colbert Coach Tony Robinson for throwing Calera off its game.
“Colbert is very well coached and their offensive discipline gave us a lot of trouble,” McKnight said. “We played just well enough to win, and were lucky to do it. Hats off to Colbert.”
The Leopards led through most of the first three quarters but Braxton Barton sparked a 7-0 Bulldog run with a reverse layup early in the fourth. Trailing 43-36, Whitehead scored five straight points to get Colbert within two in the closing minutes.
After winning the Rock Creek Invitational on Saturday, Calera defeated Boswell 80-58 in a make-up game on Monday. Bradley McKnight scored 37 points in the game, with Braxton Barton adding 14 and Diamond with 10.
Calera (8-3) is off until Jan. 7, 2014; Colbert hosts Rock Creek this Friday.
