The Durant Noon Lion’s Club plans to wrap up the holiday season toy drive by attempting to Fill the RV. With only a few days left until the annual toy distribution, the Durant Lion’s Club finds they are still in need of donations.
Fill the RV will take place in the Durant Wal-Mart parking lot on Thursday, December 19th from 5-9 p.m. They are asking for shoppers to shop with a child in mind and then donate the toy in an attempt to fill the RV.
“You have heard of Fill the Truck during canned food drives and coat drives,” said Brian Bond, Durant Lion’s Club Toy Box Chairman. “We thought we would go a step further and Fill the RV. Our need is much bigger than it has been in the past.”
New toys are needed for boys and girls between 0 -16 years of age.
“We often get donations for younger kids because they seem to be more fun to shop for,” said Bond. “However, we are really in need of items for older kids.” Each year the Durant Lion’s Club provides Christmas for over 1,500 children in Bryan County.
Many businesses and organizations in the community have collaborated with the Lion’s Club to ensure that the Toy Box program is a success. This year students at Durant High School DECA program have taken the initiative to help promote the program and have adopted Toys for Tots as their community service project.
