SILO - The transformation of the Lady Rebels took another step up Monday with a 49-35 home win over Calera on opening night of the Bryan County Tournament.

Silo went win-less for their first games of 2013 but are now 5-2 since the start of the new year, taking four of their last five and that loss a one-point decision last week against a Homecoming-fueled Colbert team.

On Monday, Dax Simon’s Lady Rebels wore down the Calera LadyDawgs with a second half surge sparked by the agile Mary Grider. She tallied 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The game was tight until a late second-quarter outburst got started when Karissa Marshall hit a three on her way to 10 points for the night. Silo took a 23-18 lead into the break, but it was a 15-7 third quarter run which built a double-digit lead for the Lady Rebs.

Silo’s starting five plus back-up Jewel Zukosky all played big roles in the win. Post Hannah Bourne dominated the glass with 12 rebounds to go with eight points. Guard Riley Newton scored five, forward Katlyn Halley scored two at the line but added eight rebounds, and Zukosky gave six points off the bench.

Madi Robinson led Calera with 11 points, nine of those from three-point range. Taylor Pickett scored eight and grabbed six boards; Raylee Rogers went 7-for-8 from the line for her seven points; Micaela Curtman had four points, four rebounds and three steals; Maddie Partain scored three and Alli Jackson added a basket.
