Durant firefighters respond to small fires

The Durant Fire Department has snuffed out several small fires in the past two days.


Firefighters were dispatched at 10:11 a.m. Wednesday to a home at 301 S. 13th Ave., and when they arrived one minute later, they found plywood that was smoldering underneath a support block at a corner of the home. They put out the fire.


They were dispatched to a trash fire at 6:25 p.m. at West Louisiana Street and South Fourth Avenue. Firefighters left the scene at 6:48 after putting out the fire. At 5:48 p.m., they were dispatched to 401 S. Fourth Avenue where they put out a burning pile of leaves.


Firefighters responded at 10:09 p.m. to a bonfire in the backyard of 1304 N. Sixth Ave. When they arrived five minutes later, they found a small campfire that was out out by the resident using a bucket.


On Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to 1024 Katy Ave. where there was a small grass and brush fire in the timber area alongside the creek. That fire scorched an approximate 50 x 50 area before firefighters put it out. Also Tuesday, they were dispatched at 8:17 p.m. to 802 W. Walnut St. where there was a downed power line.
