It’s a ‘sew-sew’ spring break

The Clay Jones Community Building was in stitches over spring break when a dozen young people — 11 girls and one boy — participated in the “Snip-N-Snitch” sewing day camp March 19. The children made book bags in what was a first attempt at sewing for most of them. They cut out the pattern pieces before taking the scissors to the fabric, pieced them together with pins and sewed the seams. They also had to press the material and attach straps.

The event was led by Tommie James, family and consumer sciences educator with the Oklahoma State University Extension Office. She had plenty of willing assistance from Bryan County’s Oklahoma Home and Community Education members, a parent helper, and 4-H team leaders Allisson and Alyssa Robinson.

The extension office and OHCE chapter also are planning cooking and canning classes for children and adults.
