The annual Kiwanis Pancake Supper will be held this Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clay Jones Community Center at Bryan County Fairgrounds.

Kiwanis Club President Darrell Mendez said the club’s goal is to have 5,000 pancake dinners served throughout the day.

“This is our one fund-raiser of the year, and all the proceeds go back into Bryan County youth projects,” he said. These projects include scholarships, playground equipment and athletic fields.

The club also sponsors the Kiwanis Terrific Kids program, rewarding local youths who exhibit “citizenship and good character,” Mendez said.

Kiwanians are also active with Meals on Wheels, Families Feeding Families and they could be seen on Thursday night helping guard crosswalks on Main Street during Halloween trick-or-treat.

One company got a jump start on the pancake dinner. Progressive Pipeline of Meridian, Miss., bought 100 tickets but immediately donated them to Durant Boys & Girls Club.

Kiwanis Club members Tommy Kramer and Cathryn Phelps went to the club on Friday to announce the donation to the children. The room erupted in cheers and many children gave high-five handshakes to Phelps and Kramer.

To-go orders of 25 or more will be available on Tuesday by calling Mendez at 924-9458. Advance tickets are $5 from an Kiwanis member, or $6 at the door.

Mendez said the dinner includes “all you can eat pancakes and all the sides:” sausage, bacon, milk and coffee.
