The Blue River Academic Bowl Conference, consisting of high school academic teams from Achille, Bennington, Boswell, Caddo, Calera, Colbert, Coleman, Milburn, Rock Creek, Silo, and Tushka, held its annual tournament on Saturday, November 9, at Colbert. Rock Creek took the championship, followed by runner-up Silo, and third place Coleman. Conference chairman Justin White, Colbert’s coach, presented All-Conference honors at an awards assembly preceding the tournament.
In All-Conference honors, Trevor Iams from Rock Creek was voted by his peers as the Most Valuable Player of the Conference, based not only on scoring ability but also leadership and sportsmanship. Coleman won the All-Conference trophy for Best Win/Loss Record by being the only undefeated team in the conference. Rock Creek got the trophy for Top Score Earning team. Finally, the six-member All Conference team was selected based upon the highest scorers for the season. They are Trevor McWilliams (Bennington), Trevor Iams (Rock Creek), Dakota Holloway (Rock Creek), Cody Halley (Silo), Dillon Cochran (Tushka), and Ty Goff (Tushka).
The Academic Bowl, sanctioned by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA), fields teams in all classes, and the number of schools participating in Academic Bowl (over 400 statewide) is second only to the number of schools participating in basketball. The Blue River Conference Tournament is excellent practice for local teams, who have completed their District and Regional Tournaments, and will compete in Area and State Tournaments in their respective classes on January 16, and February 6.
