Durant firefighters put out a fire Wednesday morning in a sun room of a Durant home before the blaze spread to the rest of the residence.

The Durant Fire Department was dispatched at 9:12 to William Fene’s 208 Shadow Wood Lane home and when they arrived five minutes later, there was smoking coming from the sun room/den at the northeast side of the home.

Firefighters entered the room and put out the fire in about eight minutes which was contained to that room. Fene told firefighters he was in another room when he heard the smoke detector activate, and he then saw smoke. He then opened a sliding-glass door so his dogs could get out before he walked out the front door.

The remainder of the home sustained smoke and heat damage, according to a fire department report, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
