A convicted sex offender is going back to prison after pleading guilty this week after pleading guilty to distribution of child pornography.

Richard Alan Harmon, 65, Bennington, was sentenced to seven years in prison. An additional count of possession of child pornography was dismissed.

He was charged with the crimes in May 2013. He came under investigation after Lt. Mark Bruning, a Guthrie police investigator with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) sponsored Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, informed the Durant Police Department that Harmon had shared Internet files containing child pornography, according to a probable-cause affidavt.

According to court papers, Harmon possessed and shared images of minors engaged in sexual acts. During an undercover operation, Lt. Bruning learned that a computer was sharing child pornography through a file-sharing network.

The Internet Protocol (IP) address was Harmon’s, court papers state, and on May 8, 2013, members of the ICAC task force, officers with the Durant Police Department, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bryan County District Attorney’s office served a search warrant at Harmon’s home.

When officers entered the home, Harmon agreed to talk and according to the affidavit, he said he was stupid and had downloaded child pornography and that he had approximately 40 videos of child pornography on a disc.

Harmon said he was convicted in 2008 in Texas for lewd acts with a child, the affidavit states, and that the images he downloaded and shared showed children having sex with other children and adults. He also said he knew his computer was set up to be able to share pornography with other people.
