The Association Free Lutheran Bible School will present a concert of sacred music at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3802 N. Washington Ave., in Durant.
The 37- member mixed choir from Minneapolis, Minnesota, tours annually and has traveled across the United States, three times to Norway, and twice to Central Europe. Their last trip to Europe included performances in Poland, Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Last year, the choir traveled to the Northwest U.S., performing concerts from Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. This year, their tour takes them to the Northeast United States. The Concert Choir is one of 10 performing groups represented at the school and one of two touring choirs. Mr. Andrew Hanson is the Music Director and conducts the choirs and instrumental ensemble at AFLBS.
The Association Free Lutheran Bible School is a two-year, college equivalent Bible School where credits transfer to many other four-year Christian colleges. The school began in 1966 with 13 students and has now reached an enrollment of 110. The courses are designed to prepare students to live committed Christian lives in whatever vocation they choose and to actively participate in their local congregation. The campus is located on the beautiful shores of Medicine Lake, in a northwest suburb of Minneapolis along with the Ministry Training Institute and the Free Lutheran Theological Seminary.
The repertoire of the choir is eclectic in style, is primarily a cappella, and includes sacred classics, hymn arrangements and energetic spirituals. AFLBS Dean, Pastor Joel Rolf, will give a greeting at each concert. The concert is free and open to the public. An offering will be received. The entire family is welcome.
