Small town farmers selling goods across America are getting recognition this week. The week of August 3-9 has been declared Farmers Market Week by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The declaration states that farmers markets are important outlets for agricultural producers nationwide and play a key role in developing local and regional food systems.
The declaration explains the benefits this has on local health and economy. Farmers markets are also improving in payment methods.
The farmers market held at the Choctaw Community Center in Durant now accepts WIC as well as tribal food vouchers and cash.
