The annual Bryan County Fair Appreciation Luncheon was held this week.
The luncheon is held every year to thank fair board members and the county’s Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) members for their hard work in preparing the Bryan County Fair which will be held in September.
OHCE and the Bryan County Fair board are responsible for organizing the Bryan County Free Fair each year. The fair will be held September 3-6 at the Bryan County Fairgrounds on South Ninth Avenue in Durant.
Each year, a member from both groups is honored for their efforts with their group and with the fair. This year’s honorees were OHCE member Lillie Harris and Fair Board member Mark Bolling.
Harris has been a member of the Mead OHCE group since 1992. She has served as the club’s president five times and has served as vice-president.
She is active in all OHCE group and county projects and frequently works at the OHCE Country Store during the county fair. She has already signed up to work two consecutive days during this year’s fair.
Bolling has served on the Bryan County Fair Board for the past 12 years and has served as beef superintendent 10 years.
Fair Board Chair Larry Conditt said Bolling raised his family at the fair. He said Bolling can always be found working at the county fair each year with his family’s help.
Both Harris and Bolling have been involved in Bryan County 4-H since childhood and they try to inspire and encourage younger generations to be involved as well.
The Bryan County 4-H received a gift at the luncheon. OHCE member Joy Jones gifted the program with a new touch-screen computer for use by 4-H members and staff.
