BOKCHITO — The Boswell Scorpions claimed an 11-7 win over the hosting Rock Creek Mustangs in a baseball match-up Monday afternoon.

Rock Creek put up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Garrett Mitchell led off the frame with a hard-hit single up the middle. Nash Hestily knocked him in on a one-bagger through to right field. Hestily advanced on a ground out by Davis Rogers, then scored on a fielding error on contact by Austin McCann. Brock Allen hit a single out of the second baseman’s reach. He then got himself in a rundown between first and second, but Boswell wasn’t too distracted to throw out McCann trying to score.

The Scorpions responded with five runs in the top of the third, but they didn’t do it all themselves. With one out, Dusty Belvin reached on an infield error and Cameron Roberts drew a walk. Belvin stole third and, as the throw to gun him went into left field, he ran home and Roberts reached third. Hayden Farmer got on base on a dropped third strike, an opportunity Roberts used to score.

Connor Roberts hit a fly to center that fell off the fielder’s glove and put runners at second and third. McKenna Pierce drew a walk to load the bases, then Blake Shults was hit by a pitch for a rather easy RBI. An infield fly became the second out. Then Levi Russell reached on an infield error that also allowed two scores. Rock Creek finally climbed out of the inning with bases loaded on a strikeout for pitcher Bronson Burns.

Boswell added three more in the top of the fourth. Cameron Roberts started it off with a hard-hit single over the the third baseman, and Farmer followed with a one-bagger to right-center. After Connor Roberts was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Allen moved to the mound for Rock Creek as Pierce was coming to bat.

Pierce was credited for a two-RBI single in pushing one through the infield. Garrett Belvin then drew a walk to load the bases, setting up Caleb Brown for an RBI single to shallow right-center. The bases again were loaded when Rock Creek got the third out.

The Mustangs answered with three of their own in the bottom of the frame to narrow the gap, 8-5. Mitchell led it with a base-hit dink toward third and Noe Alaniz drew a walk. Then, Hestily re-routed a pitch to deep left-center for a two-RBI double and took third on the throw to home plate. Rogers then earned a sac RBI bringing in Hestily. Brock Allen landed another single over the second baseman but was left stranded.

Boswell pushed the advantage to 9-5 in the top of the fifth. Cameron Roberts was hit by a pitch to start the frame, sped to second on a passed ball and got to third on a Farmer ground out. He scored on Pierce’s sacrifice.

The Mustangs made it a two-point ballgame, 9-7, in the bottom of the six with a pair of runs. Rogers reached on a pinball hit that pinged off the pitcher and the second baseman’s glove. Two consecutive walks loaded the bases before Clayton Russell got one through to left for a two-RBI single.

But the Scorpions tacked on two in the top of the seventh to push to lead back to four, 11-7. Dusty Belvin led off with a single through to left and took an extra base when the Mustang fielder held the ball a little too long. Cameron Roberts perfectly placed a bunt toward third to put runners at first and third. When Rock Creek tried to pick off Roberts at first after a pitch and missed, Belvin scored. Roberts moved to second on another miss at first. As the throw to the pitcher sailed over his head, the third baseman backed him up. Roberts took that opportunity to get another base. He scored on a passed ball.

Rock Creek is scheduled to go to Soper today with a 4 p.m. start.

Boswell will host Achille Thursday, beginning at 4 p.m.
