Friends of the Library appreciate community support
IAs President of the Friends of the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Library (FOL), I want to express the club’s appreciation to our supporters who helped us make the annual fund raising this year such a huge success. Funds raised by FOL are used to support the extra needs of the library which are not covered in the regular library budget.
All supporters of our library are deeply valued, as we continue to raise funds for the FOL group. The book donations that we received from the community came in high numbers this year. This kind of generosity from the community helps in our efforts to support the library. The FOL has been supported by library patrons, quilter Betty Harris, Holiday Craft Show vendors, local businesses and civic organizations; Lowe’s, Durant Lumber, Choctaw Nation Recycling, First Texoma National Bank, First United Bank, Durant Chamber of Commerce, KLBC, Durant Daily Democrat, Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis, Durant ISD Show Choirs and Cherokee Communications.
The FOL has been able to help support three Gale database additions to the library Chiltons, Legal Forms, and Price It! Antiques and Collectibles. We have purchased additional shelving for the paperback section. When you visit our library you will notice the attractive bronze statues at each entrance of the library or, see the beautiful art hanging on the walls, particularly the art in the children’s area, and the new addition of Wildflowers of Southeastern Oklahoma at the main entrance area of the library.
Remember that the majority of the money earned by FOL to purchase this art came from our annual fundraisers supported by the community. We contribute to the Summer Reading Program, as well as After School Programs held at the library, and are helping to support a new Teen Advisory Board program, added this year. The FOL group has been able to provide a successful nursing home book program to the community by dedicated FOL volunteers.
FOL also serves the library in many other ways. If you would be interested in becoming a member of the FOL group, applications may be picked up at the circulation desk or call me at 580-924-3486. I am always eager to recruit a new friend for the library.
