A Colbert man authorities said was involved in a crash that killed one of his passengers has been charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Kellis Glen Barnett, 26, was charged Tuesday. He is accused of leading a Colbert police officer on a chase early Monday morning that ended when his vehicle struck a tree and ejected Neil Allen Johnston, 31, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court papers state Barnett was driving in a reckless manner when his vehicle struck a tree.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Barnett was driving southbound when he attempted to turn right. He lost control of his vehicle and Johnston was ejected approximately three feet after the vehicle hit the tree.
Another passenger, Skylar Renee Justice, 21, Cartwright, was taken to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, to be treated for arm and internal trunk injuries.
OHP said Barnett, who was arrested, declined medical treatment.
If convicted, Barnett faces not less than four years in prison.
