City Council considers grants

The Durant City Council held a special meeting Wednesday in city council chambers. The council considered grants for various project across the city.
Council approved adoption of the 2014 Citizen Participation Plan for CDBG Applications and Projects insuring all CDBG Grants are presented for public opinion throughout the year.
Council also approved applying for a $1 million grant to repair Country Club Road that will be matched three to one by the incoming asphalt plant, Overland Materials and Manufacturing Inc.
The grant had been approved once, however with a name change to the company the grant must be reapplied for.
Grant requirements state the company would need to match grant funds two to one, however the company will exceed this requirement offering approximately $3 million.
After several minutes of discussion, council also approved applying for a grant to place new lighting at Billy Miller Park in Durant.
A $6,000 grant was also accepted by the State of Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management to purchase an Emergency Response Trailer.
The trailer will be used for city, county and state emergencies to carry such things as lumber to repair fallen structures and similar emergencies.
