Calera Council held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday and heard reports from the police and fire departments.
Calera Fire-Rescue responded to 29 calls last month which Fire Chief/Vice Mayor Brian Norton said was a busier month than usual. Norton said the new fire trucks are in and already responding to calls.
Calls last month were one structure fire, five automobile accidents, 15 medical calls, seven wild land fires and one miscellaneous call.
The Saint Patrick’s Day 5K run is scheduled for Saturday with sign up at 7 a.m. and the run begins at 8, according to Norton, and the citywide Easter egg hunt will be April 19.
A fire department open house is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, and the public is invited.
Police Chief Don Hyde said the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics is bringing a drug disposal box to the police department at 11 a.m. March 28.
Police wrote reports or made arrests for the following incidents in February: DUI, two; methamphetamine possession, eight; possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, one; domestic violence in presence of minor, one; transporting open container, one; warrants, five; domestic assault and battery, two; feloniously pointing a firearm, one; paraphernalia possession, three; drug trafficking, one; marijuana possession, one; false information to a police officer, one; driving while impaired, one; no drivers license, three; grand larceny, one; auto burglary, three; child abuse, one; hit and run, one, and theft, one. Police also investigated nine accidents last month.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mayor Michael Hearon presented Firefighter Ryan Beckham with a chief’s award from the fire department.
The council also discussed the following agenda items:
- Approved a variance to James Harrington to allow four duplexes on Allen Lane
- Voted to accept bids on a 1986 fire truck
-Decided to send a letter to Jerry Arthur to replace numbers on incorrectly numbered homes on Curtis Street
- Heard a presentation from Chris Pierce and Brenton Rucker on a city website for online payments for utility bills and court fines
