“The Art of Racing in the Rain” is Book Talk’s choice for its November 14 discussion at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Library, 1515 W. Main in Durant. Juliet Cathey will lead the 7 p.m. discussion.

“Racing” is narrated by a lab-terrier named Enzo, who tells how his master, young race-car driver Denny, pursues success both on the track and in his personal life. Although dog and owner communicate non-verbally, Enzo longs to be able to speak and to finally become a human being. Through Denny’s difficulties on the professional racing circuit and with his sickly wife, Eve, Enzo remains his steadfast supporter.

Cathey retired a few years ago from Southeastern Oklahoma State University as the college’s Director of Housing.

She is a member of the board of the Donald W. Reynolds Library and is a board member and past president of Friends of the Reynolds Library.

Book Talk’s meetings are open to the public. The group reads and discusses a variety of fiction and non-fiction. Copies of its monthly selections are available for purchase at the library service desk and never cost more than $10.

Future choices for Book Talk discussions are: “A Wrinkle in Time,” a young-adult classic by Madeline L’Engle, for January 2014; and “A Week in Winter,” a novel about relationships by Irish writer Maeve Binchy, for February.

The discussion group does not meet in December or summer months.
