Sen. Josh Brecheen, R-Colgate, issued the following statement in response to a ruling of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down Oklahoma’s ban on same-sex marriage.
“The citizens of Oklahoma have made it clear that they believe the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman should be the law of the land. State leaders should be prepared to stand steadfast against any effort by federal judges to circumvent the will of the people and redefine marriage by judicial fiat.
“I am confident the decision will be appealed very soon. In addition, the Legislature should be prepared to consider all options for protecting marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman during the next legislative session, including the possibility that covenant marriage proposals enacted in other states could be creatively modified creating additional options in line with the biblical and traditional template of marriage while preserving religious liberties.”
