Both Silo Girls and Boys Cross Country teams competed in Shawnee Saturday in the 3A State Championships. Silo Boys placed 6th overall and the Girls placed 14th.
Coach Bobbie Pratt said, “It was a lot tougher competition at the 3A level. My top three male runners set personal records (all running under 18 minutes), but it still wasn’t enough. These boys trained hard and ran their hearts out, that is all I can ask of them.”
Casey Love (sr.) placed 19th (17:40), Trenton Long (so.) placed 20th (17:45), Cody Shelton (jr.) placed 26th (17:58), Dylan Gaskill (fr.) placed 66th (19:20), and Marcus Bowens placed 69th (19:26) in the 5K competition. Nic Posekany (fr.) and Dacoda Trent (so.) also ran for the Silo Boys team.
Heather Ingram (so.) lead the Silo Girls team and placed 37th with a time of 13:51 in the two mile race. Kearra Martin (fr.) was not far behind placing 49th with a time of 14:01. Completing the team of five were Jessica Ingram (so.), Sidney Riley (fr.) and Alivia Jeffreys (so.).
Of her girls team, Pratt said, “Heather surprised us all with her finish. She has been improving all season, but her time was a minute and 19 seconds faster than her last race on this course. I am very proud of her and her improvement.” Pratt added, “This is a tough sport. If you are having a bad day it is directly reflected in your time and your place. This is what happened to Kearra; it just wasn’t her best day. Kearra is a freshman and there were a lot of nerves involved in her first appearance at the State level. She will get it all figured out and has three more years to prove it.”
