TUSHKA - Two Bryan County teams earned a split in their first games at the Tushka AmeriState Invitational Basketball Tournament last week.
Calera advanced to the semifinals with a 56-31 win over Wright City before falling 70-67 to Hartshorne on Friday. The loss put the Bulldogs in a third place game on Saturday evening.
Calera held a three-point lead on Hartshorne early in the fourth quarter on Friday, but the Miners let the Bulldogs do the digging as Calera slipped into a nine-point hole late in the game.
A pair of last-second three-pointers from Johnathan Diamond and Bradley McKnight cut the lead to three as time expired.
Four Bulldogs got into double-digit scoring, with McKnight leading the way at 26 points including five from behind the arc. Diamond added 13, Tanner Davis had 10 to go with seven boards, and Connor Hamilton fouled out with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Dakota Adams and Braxton Barton scored four each. Riley Barton had five rebounds.
In other games at the AmeriState Invitational:
Tushka dispatched Hwy. 69 rival Stringtown with a 55-35 decision on Thursday, paced by 16 points from Garrett Wall, 14 for Wyatt Daniel and 11 for Jody Moreland. Results of a Friday semifinal against Antlers were not immediately available.
And Boswell lost its opening round game to Hartshorne by a score of 63-42 despite 15 points from Tracy Brown and 10 for Cameron Collier.
The Scorpions bounced back early Friday with a 53-43 win over Wright City. Brown and Collier scored 13 apiece. Results of Results of a Saturday consolation game against Moyers were not available as of presstime.
GIRLS GAMES - Thursday, Jan. 9
Calera 38 Boswell 35 - Maddie Partain and Taylor Pickett scored 12 each for the LadyDawgs; Breosha Williams scored a game-high 17 for the Lady Scorps.
Tushka 45 Hartshorne 40 - Jaylee Eaves scored 17 and Jayden Eaves added 11 for the victorious Lady Tigers.
Friday, Jan. 10
Boswell 36 Stringtown 31 - Breosha Williams led the Lady Scorps with 20 points, followed by seven for Breah Stewart and six for Callie McIntyre. Boswell reached a Saturday consolation game against Hartshorne with the win.
Antlers 59 Calera 34 - LadyDawg turnovers led to baskets for the Antlers Lady Bearcats, who took a 34-11 halftime lead and kept up the pressure to advance Antlers to the finals. Calera played for third place on Saturday afternoon.
