County youths participate in Oklahoma Elks State Hoop Shoot
Durant Elks Lodge sent two Bryan County students to Sapulpa for the state Hoop Shoot on Feb. 8, Lexi McDonald of Silo (8-9 girls) and Tanner Davis of Achille (12-13 boys).
Both of these students won three contests to qualify for the state shoot-off. They both won local school contests, The Durant Elks county shoot-off and the SE District contest in Ada. Each contest was determined on how many free throws were made out of 25.
At the state competition, McDonald made 17 out of 25 in the 8-9 year old girls bracket. She finished second behind Shaylynn Hahn of Woodward (19-for-25).
Davis, in the 12-13 year old boys bracket, shot 20-for-25. He finished second behind Hogan Hall of Mangum (21-for-25).
This year more than 18,000 boys and girls took part in the Hoop Shoot competition across Oklahoma.
The members of the Durant Elks Lodge are proud of all the students who participated, especially the two finalists who advanced to the state competition.
