BENNINGTON - The home Bears swept the district championships last Friday with impressive victories over heir Class B basketball rivals.


Taylin Palmer led the Bears with 16 points and Devin Dophied had 11 as Bennington defeated Coleman 49-33 for the district trophy. Chance Haislip scored 10 for the Bears, with Cameron Hammond and Josh Hawkins adding five each.


Tanner Whitmire led Coleman with 14. Whitmire and the Wildcats will visit Caney at 3 p.m. Thursday in a regional elimination game against the host Cougars.


Bennington has drawn ninth-ranked Moyers in a regional playoff game at 8 p.m. Thursday in Caney. Moyers owns a 20-point win over the Bears from back in December.


A win will have Bennington in the regional final on Saturday in Wilburton, but a loss will force the Bears into a must-win game at 3 p.m. Friday (also in Wilburton).

Crystal Tate was shining bright with 21 points in the Lady Bears’ district championship win over Victory Live Academy on Friday.


Ashten Belvin added 13 for Bennington and Anna Folsom had seven. Amber Bruce scored 16 for the Lady Eagles, Justus Harris had nine and Scarlett Stinchcomb scored seven.


The Lady Eagles will play Moyers at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Caney in a regional elimination game.


The Lady Bears will visit No. 15 Caney (22-2) at 6:30 p.m. in the regional semifinals. The winner plays on Saturday night in Wilburton for the regional championship, while the loser must play a 1:30 p.m. Friday game (also in Wilburton).
