BYNG - The Calera Lady Bulldogs amassed 20 wins this basketball season but it was their ninth loss on Thursday which ended a remarkable run for the eight girls playing under the direction of Coach LaChelle Brown.

Rush Springs was just too much for the Calera roster, taking down the LadyDawgs 63-45 in the Class 2A Area playoffs on Thursday in Byng. Rush Springs will move on to play Wright City on Friday.

Early Calera turnovers and a Rush Springs press which allowed only a handful of looks at the basket contributed to their 15-2 opening quarter run. Raylee Rogers, who led all Calera scorers with 17 points, scored the first LadyDawg basket.

Calera steadily got better on offense, scoring 12, 14 and 17 points in each of the final three periods of play.

Senior Taylor Pickett scored 12 points, including one final Pickett pick-off and pick-up in the fourth quarter. Her last shot as a Lady Bulldog was a three-pointer in the closing minutes.

Fellow senior Micaela Curtman finished her career by filling the stat sheet with one of each: One basket, one steal, one rebound and an assist - one of just a pair of assists by Calera throughout the game.

Pickett, Madi Robinson and Maddie Partain each collected four rebounds. Robinson and Kaylee Ervin scored six points each; Partain had two.

Jordan Brooks of Rush Springs scored a game-high 23 points; Jacy Cullens had 16. Cordell and Latta play n tonight’s Area championship game at 6:30 p.m. in Byng.
