BYNG - Silo basketball has advanced to the Class 2A Area semifinal on Friday. A win today will give the Rebels a shot at making the state tournament in the Area Consolation final on Saturday.

Silo diced up Wilson 66-40 on Thursday behind 19 points from Kendall Shives and 15 for Bryce Brister. Coach Dax Simon said Brister was among several players who stepped up when Wilson defenders collapsed on the Rebels’ bigs.

“They came out and tried a ‘triangle-and-two’ (defense), so we had other guys come in and step up,” Simon said. “Now we’re looking forward to playing (Friday) and excited to get the opportunity to play another really good team.”

Silo will play Christian Heritage Academy at 3 p.m. in Byng. CHA defeated Cordell 64-52 on Thursday and nearly took down Latta in a two-point loss last week in the regional round.

Friday is a must-win elimination game, with the winner taking on the loser of a Friday night tilt between powerhouses Haworth and Latta. The final game will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday in Byng.

On Thursday, the Rebels led 20-9 after one quarter and held a 37-22 lead at the break. Shives scored 10 of his 19 in the third quarter as Silo went on an 18-7 run to open the game up at 55-29.

Lance House scored nine for Silo, Leonard Sandler had six, Trenton Long and Andrew Bolin had five apiece, Tanner Clark hit an early three pointer and Garrett Hayes scored two.

The Rebels are now 3-1 in the playoffs with victories over Amber-Pocasset, Cordell and Wilson. Their solitary post-season loss was a 51-47 decision by Haworth in the regional finals last week.
