OKC - The Caddo Lady Bruins (23-2) had a remarkable season come to an unwanted end on Thursday at the hands of Pond Creek-Hunter Lady Panthers (26-1) 59-30 at the State Tournament in Oklahoma City.
Caddo went toe-to-toe with Lady Panthers in the first period, then the rest of the game, Lady Bruins couldn’t find thier shots. The usual suffocating defense of Caddo was cut-up and unusual miscues befell the Lady Bruins.
Caddo’s 3-point shooters were off going 2-for-16 and as a team shot 22.7% from the field. Caddo was out rebounded 32-20.
Tobi Miller led the Lady Bruins with nine points and three rebounds, Desiree Haugen finished with seven points and two rebounds, Alli Adair had six points and four rebounds, Julie Layton had five points with six rebounds and Shelby Dellinger had three points with one rebound.
In the first period, both teams traded buckets. Layton drew first blood for the Lady Bruins, she made both of her free-throws then came back and hit a 3-pointer. Haugen pitched in three points and Adair put in two points. But the Lady Panthers took the lead at the end of period 12-11.
Everything went terribly wrong for the Lady Bruins in the second period as they were outscored 18-6. The Lady Panthers went on runs of 12-2 and 6-4. The Bruins shooters went cold and trailed at halftime 30-17.
Both teams traded buckets in the third period, Miller scored eight of Caddo’s nine points in the period. Caddo trailed 39-26.
Then the game got away from Lady Bruins as they were outscored 20-4 in the final period of the season. With a 23-2 record and with an appearance at State Tournament, the Lady Bruins and head coach Vernon Johnson had a successful season. One to remember.
