CALERA — The Bulldogs cruised through a pair of playoff baseball games Thursday to pick up a district championship with eyes on more prizes in next week’s regional round.
Calera defeated Wynnewood 11-0 and 10-0 in a pair of run-rule shortened games of six innings apiece. Josh Loper (six strikeouts, six hits allowed in five innings) and Connor Hamilton (eight K’s and three hits allowed in five innings) picked up pitching victories.
“Connor gets us going,” said Calera baseball coach Rickey Teafatiller. “He gets his teammates where they’re supposed to be, makes my job a lot easier. It’s nice to have kids out there who know what they’re supposed to be doing.”
Hamilton, who plays short stop when not on he mound, also scored four runs in the two games. Caleb Phillips had a good day at the plate with a home run in game one and a two-RBI double which blew game two wide open.
Braxton Barton also had a home run, as well as two RBIs in the final game. Josh Loper had a double, a triple and scored three runs. Riley Barton had three hits on the afternoon.
“We hit the ball a little better today and did some good things on the bases,” Teafatiller said. “It seems like we’ve been waiting a month for the playoffs to get here.”
The 24-5 Bulldogs will know their regional assignments Monday.
