COLBERT — The Colbert Leopards (24-9 overall) are district champions and headed to regionals after a sweep of the Healdton Bulldogs 7-2, 11-1 on Thursday.
In game one the Leopards trailed 2-0 after the first inning. Then Colbert grabbed the lead in the third inning and never looked back.
Colbert scored a run in the second inning on a Ethan Williams RBI. Then in third inning Colbert took the lead after Colton Bruce hit a SAC-FLY for a RBI and another run scored on a wild pitch. Leopards led 3-2.
Colbert put the game away with a four run fifth inning. James Hair drove in a run on a RBI single, Keller Cummins smashed a RBI single and both would later cross the plate on two wild pitches that went to the back stop to give the Colbert a 7-2 victory.
In game two, the Leopards run-ruled the Bulldogs in five innings.
Colbert jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Kason Krob RBI single in the first inning. Then Healdton tied the at one apiece in the second inning. But Colbert took the lead back, 2-1, on a RBI hit by Colton Bruce.
Colbert then padded its lead with a four-run fourth inning. Ethan Williams got things started with a two-RBI smash into the outfield. Then, with one man on base, Krob stepped up and hit a home run over the right field wall to give Colbert a 6-1 lead.
Then in the fifth inning, Colbert put the game to rest with five more runs.
Payton Whitehead hit a monster 2 RBI triple to start the scoring. Then Ethan Williams knocked in Whitehead on a RBI single. The final two runs of the game came on a bad throw from the Healdton catcher to the second baseman that went into the outfield, and Williams and Krob both crossed the plate.
