The Colbert Leopards claimed their first game Friday — 4-0 over Konawa — in Class 2A Regionals at Latta. Colbert scored one each in the second and fourth innings. Leadoff Dylan Jones hit a two-RBI double through to left field in the sixth for the final runs.
The Leopards then lost 1-0 to Latta in extra innings. That put them up against Konawa again at 11 a.m. Saturday, hoping for a win that would give them another couple of chances against the home team for the State tournament berth.
The Calera Bulldogs came away with two wins in Friday’s regional playoffs in Hartsthorne, Ok. In game one, Calera beat Panama Hogs 4-2 and then beat Hartshorne 6-4 in their second game of the day. Calera is one win away from being regional champions and punching their ticket the State Tournament.
Calera scored three runs in the second inning and one more in the sixth inning. Shawn Harper, Riley Barton and Conner Hamilton all hits RBIs in the second inning. Then Lucas Wright hit a RBI in the sixth inning. In game two against the home team Hartshorne, Calera put a team effort together. Wright hit 2 RBI’s, Caleb Phillips, Barton, Josh Loper and Hamilton all hit RBI’s.
That put Calera in the 4 p.m. regional championship game on Saturday.
