Southeastern golfer Jeff Hunter has been named third-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America following his performance on the course and in the classroom throughout the 2013-14 season.
Hunter, a senior from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, is a business major whose near 4.0 grade point average also earned him Southeastern’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honor.
Hunter helped SE to its second-straight Super-Regional appearance and was the only golfer on the roster to have played in all 11 team tournaments this season.
He boasts a 74.41 scoring average, which is just plus-2.72 to par in 29 rounds. He posted the team’s only individual tournament win this season with a victory at the Natural State Classic and added two other top-five finishes and three other top-10s.
Hunter twice matched his season-low round of 69 and carded six rounds at par or better while finishing better than 78.3 percent of the competitors he faced in his 11 tournaments.
He becomes SE’s first Academic All-American since baseball’s Zack Humphrey was a second-team selection during the 2004 season.
