Durant native Damon Jackson took the Legacy Fighting Championship featherweight crown Friday night after Jackson beat the defending champion Leonard Garcia (18-12-1) in 92 seconds at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.
Jackson remains undefeated in his young career (9-0, 3-0 LFC). As the challenger, Jackson entered the fight as a near 2.5-1 favorite over the experienced Garcia.
Jackson attacked and scored early when he got a take-down within the first 20 seconds. Then he forced Garcia to surrender his back and got into mount position and began to deliver devastating punches. Jackson put Garcia in an arm-triangle choke hold, along with knees to the body, and forced a tap out at the 1:32 mark of the opening round to claim the crown.
“I never dreamed it would come like that. The game plan from the get-go was strictly forward pressure and attacking whatever he came at me with, shutting it down,” Jackson told mmajunkie.com.
