Southeastern football players debuted their new-look alternate helmets during the annual Welcome Week scrimmage Thursday night.
The defense wore blue with Southeastern’s traditional white helmet featuring the school’s oval SE logo. The offense wore white with alternate helmets featuring the new Savage Storm imagery.
There was a buzz in the air as a drone hovered above the players that shot footage of the game and the crowd for a television commercial currently in production. The spot will air during Southeastern football’s nationally-televised game on Sept. 18 at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Thursday’s scrimmage featured 30 to 40 live snaps, along with special teams. Live goal-line action aand situational series such as high and hard, third-down, four- and two-minute drills.
“We wanted to incorporate the new Savage Storm imagery in our uniform and the side of a new helmet seemed very appropriate,” said Bo Atterberry, head coach of the Savage Storm football team. “This alternate helmet will be reserved for special occasions as a way to reward our players for their dedication and hard work.”
“We surprised the team. Only a handful of people even knew about the new alternate helmets going into the meeting.”
