COLBERT — The Colbert Lady Leopards took a 9-1 loss at home Thursday against the Latta Lady Panthers.

Colbert had a 1-0 lead after one inning. Leadoff Jordan Weger hit a single to through to left and advanced to second on Jamie Proctor’s sacrifice bunt. Weger scored on Makayla Pierce’s double to right-center. But Pierce’s courtesy runner, Hunter Jackson, was left stranded.

Latta scored three in the second to take the lead, then two in the fourth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Offensively for Colbert, Makayla Pierce had a single, double and RBI. McKinley Nipper hit three singles (to left field, right field and up the middle). Haylie McGowan finished with two singles. Jordan Weger got on base with a single, walk and a dropped third strike. Also contributing a single each were Taylor Pierce and Kristin Brigman.

McGowan was the starting pitcher for Colbert. In four innings, she struck out three, walked three, hit a batter and allowed five hits.

Taylor Pierce took over to start the fifth, when she got all three outs with strikeouts. Overall through three innings, she sat down four batters on strikes, walked two and allowed five hits.

The Lady Leopards were leaving this morning for Shawnee to play in the Hall of Fame Tournament. They will travel Monday to Soper for varsity and junior-varsity games, starting at 4:30 p.m.
