CADDO — The Colbert Leopards rallied late to overtake the hosting Caddo Lady Bruins Tuesday afternoon.

Caddo posted a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Carrie Henson and Charlsie Grace hit RBI singles to account for the points.

Colbert got a run across the plate in the top of the third to cut it to 2-1. Kristen Brigman dropped one behind the pitcher that couldn’t get picked up by the fielder, then Jordan Weger drew a walk. Makayla Pierce hustled down the line on her contact, and even a good throw wouldn’t have got to first in time to get her out. The throw actually ended up in the dugout and Brigman scored.

The Lady Leopards had the top of the order to start the fifth inning. With two outs, Makayla Pierce drew a walk, Haylie McGowan got a single through to left and Jancey Weger routed one hard up the middle to load the bases. McKinley Nipper landed one behind the third baseman in shallow left to score two runs. She took an extra base on the throw home but was left stranded.

Caddo went three-and-out in the bottom of the frame.

The sixth inning was a big one for Colbert, getting four runs while going through the entire batting order. Hunter Jackson started it off in the eight-hole with a bloop to shallow center. With one out, lead-off Jordan Weger pushed a single through the infield. Kayli Knickle reached on an unsuccessful fielder’s choice to load the bases before Makayla Pierce hit into the throw that got Jackson trying to go home.

With two outs, McGowan sent a shot to deep left-center for a three-RBI double. She took an extra base on the throwing around, so she scored easily when Jancey Weger took a hard-hit single to the other side of the field. Nipper reached on an error that allowed the fourth run to cross the plate that gave Colbert a 7-2 lead.

The Lady Bruins started making a comeback in the bottom of the frame. Three-hole Taylor Barret got it started with a single that sent Colbert shortstop Jordan Weger on the run to try an awkward catch. With one out, Casie Clower was hit by a pitch and Jessie Price got a single through to left to load the bases. Barrett scored on a passed ball.

The bases were loaded again after Kalli Whisenhunt drew a walk. Hannah Hodge then got an RBI as Casie Clower slid safely into home. But when Grace popped one back to the pitcher, Price was caught off third base for the double play.

Colbert left two on base in the seventh and Caddo was retired in order to end the game.

McGowan got the win in pitching all seven innings for Colbert. She struck out three, walked two, hit one batter and allowed six hits.

Grace took the loss, pitching the full game for Caddo. She struck out four, walked four and allowed 11 hits.

McGowan also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, double, single and three runs batted in. Nipper finished with a single and two RBIs. Jordan Weger, Knickle, Makayla Pierce, Taylor Pierce and Jackson contributed a single each.

Batting in the five-hole for Caddo, Casie Clower hit a single and a double. Henson and Grace ended up with a single and RBI apiece. Hodge, who took over for Henson in the top of the fifth at first base, contributed a run batted in. Barrett and Price had a one-bagger each.

Caddo had reportedly taken down the Tushka Lady Tigers handily the day before, 8-3.
