Another Bruin loss, but still in playoff picture

WYNNEWOOD – The score speaks for itself: Wynnewood 84, Caddo 8.

The defending Class B football champions fell hard on Friday, trailing 49-6 at halftime and giving up another 35 points in the second half.

But enough about Wynnewood, which was either participating in a low-class run-up or taking advantage of a lackluster Bruin defense. Either way, there’s a bit of savage shame on Wynnewood in the victory.

Here’s how the Bruins can make the playoffs:

On Thursday, Caddo hosts winless Maysville, a team being outscored 371-25 in their first seven games. Even though the Bruins are 0-4 right now, they could pick up their first district win this week.

Now it’s scenario time: Elmore City is off this week, so they will stick around at 1-3. Stratford (1-2) will get a taste of Wynnewood this Thursday, and while we’re not in any mood to root for Wynnewood, it’s probable that they will defeat Stratford.

So, Stratford and Elmore City will be 1-3 while Caddo could be 1-4 under this scenario. This sets up a classic battle for a playoff spot come Oct. 26. Stratford has Maysville, so pencil them in for a 2-3 mark; Caddo visits Elmore City in the Bruins’ final game of the season.

An upset in Elmore City would give Caddo a 2-4 district record, dropping Elmore City to 1-4. Then, on Nov. 2, Elmore City hosts Stratford to end the regular season.

An Elmore City win would give all three teams a 2-4 district record, as well as 1-2 head-to-head records all around. Presumably, it would come down to the spread, which heavily favors Elmore City at the moment.

But there are two games left for the Bruins to turn it around. The Caddo faithful need to be just that: Faithful.

P.S. - The “Three Dubyas” of Wynnewood, Wewoka and Wayne (defending 2A state champs) have all locked up playoff spots with spotless district records (so far). We wish two of those teams to have long and successful playoff runs.
