There will be a leadership change at Big Five Community Services as longtime executive director Carol Ammons appears to be stepping down.

Temporary replacements for Ammons were discussed at the regular Nov. 14 meeting of the board of directors for Big Five, a Durant-based community action agency which provides a wide ranger of services to low-income citizens, ranging from transportation to housing to Head Start classrooms.

A special meeting to discuss the executive director position and several other major issues has been set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Big Five offices, 1502 N. First Ave. in Durant. The meeting is open to the public.

The Wednesday agenda contains the following items:

-Proposals and presentations for an emergency contract of executive management services to fulfill roles and responsibilities of “Interim Executive Director.”

-The current position opening and notices for the permanent executive director position at Big Five. (An advertisement for this position appeared in the Sunday Durant Daily Democrat, with the position open for applicants until Dec. 7.)

The board of directors, chaired by Mike McComber of Ardmore, is also set to discuss “retaining Big Five legal representation” as well as an agenda item about the “roles, responsibilities and procedure for Board of Directors to retain control of finances and related financial accounts.”

A separate agenda item seeks to discuss “amending Big Five policies and procedures relating to Board authority to approve organizational chart and positions.”

Still another agenda item has been set to accept the resignation of board member Ted Dosh. He is a councilman with the Choctaw Nation and represents the Indian nation on the tripartite board. The board has 15 volunteer members from the public and private business sectors, as well as from the low-income community.
