BENNINGTON — The Lady Eagles of Eagletown came away winners of two fast-pitch games Monday in a three-game tilt between them, host Bennington and Calera. Each game was limited to five innings.
Eagletown defeated Calera 7-0 before outlasting the Lady Bears 6-5. Bennington Coach Matt Ward blamed a lack of hittign and a few fielding errors as the difference in the game.
The Lady Bulldogs also took a 3-2 win over Bennington in a defensive battle between ace pitchers Callie Clark (Bennington) and Taylor Pickett (Calera). The Lady Bears had a chance to take the game back with one out and the bases loaded, but one of their hitters lined into a double play.
“We just came out flat and you can’t afford to do that in a five-inning game,” said Ward.
The Lady Bears finish the regular season today with a road game in Soper. Bennington will host Victory Life Academy and Boswell in district play on Thursday.
At 10 a.m., the Lady Bears will face Boswell; VLA will play the loser of game one at noon; both winners will battle at 2 p.m., and a true final will be held at 4 p.m. for the trophy and the right to play in the regional winner’s bracket.
