Bryan County Commissioners recently received an award granting the county a $6,985.44 discount on the county’s insurance.

Throughout the past year each commissioner has attended a series of human resource workshops and Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO) safety meetings.

These meetings were part of the ACCO’s Self Insurance Premium Discount Program. The Bryan County Commissioners attended enough of the program’s meeting to earn a silver award of achievement.

During the regular meeting of the county commissioners Monday, commissioners focused on updated county road reports.

Two county roads are expected to see construction soon. Roberts Street in Bokchito and Leavenworth Trail from Highway 70 to Colbert are both expected to have construction work in the coming months.

SAIC, who inspects the roads presented the commissioners with all of the bridge work needs for the county.

The main topic in the discussion was the lack of safety signs such as low-limit and street name signs in the county.

SAIC suggested that the commissioners have the signs place and take photos with digital timestamps. This will provide proof that the county is posting the signs.

County commissioner Jay Perry said that kids think it is fun to take the signs but they do not realize the danger it can cause.

“My concern is with emergency vehicles not knowing where to go,” he said. Perry explained that without street signs, an emergency vehicle may not be able to make it to a person in need.

Leavenworth trail from hwy 70 to Colbert? I hope they aren't going to waste money to redo it from hwy 70 to platter road. It was done a couple years ago and is in great shape. They only need to fix from platter rd south to Colbert and north from church road in mead to church road in silo. It is horrible! I get so tired of seeing money wasted on roads that are good and doing nothing to ones that need attention. We do good to see a road grader anymore on gravel roads!
