McAlester, Ok. - The Durant Lions record dropped to 6-17 on the season after a 67-56 loss to the McAlester Buffaloes on it’s Homecoming night on Friday.

The Lady Lions had a slim 16-14 lead at the half and let it slip away from them in closing minutes of third period and loss 44-39. The Lady Lions are 2-14 on the season.

Boys:

The Durant Lions was hindered by cold shooting in the first period and dug themselves a 22-7 hole to the Buffaloes.

A bright spot from the game was Tyler Stovall performance of 15 points with three 3-pointers made. Zac Cater also came through with 15 points and Jalen Harris pitched in 9 points.

Durant’s offense came alive in the second period as they posted 14 points in the quarter. However, the Buffaloes kept pace and went into half time with a 41-21 lead over the Lions.

The Lions would pull within nine points in the third period after run of 17-to-4 led by and Harris had 7 points and Stovall’s 6 points. Durant trailed, 53-44.

The game would get interesting in the fourth period as the Lions were down 58-51 with 3:34 on the clock. However, the Buffaloes stop the bleeding with a 9-to-5 run to close out the game.

Durant’s road trip ends next Tuesday at Chickasha.

Girls:

The Lady Lions fought tooth-and-nail with the Lady Buffaloes in the first period. Durant junior Rheagan Jones set the tone for the first period as she drew first blood with a 3-pointer. Both teams would trad baskets in the period and the Lady Lions came away with a 13-12 lead heading into the second period.

Jones finished the night with a team high 10 points, Alex Richards had 9 points and Katie Caraway pitched 6 points.

It was a lack luster second period. The Lady Lions only scored 3 points, all from Kenzi Clapp and the Lady Buffaloes only scored 2 points. The Lady Lions led 16-14 at the half.

McAlester started it’s come back in the third period. The Lady Lions came out hot and began the period with a 11-to-6 run and led 27-20 with 4 minutes left. Then Durant couldn’t buy a bucket after that and the Lady Buffaloes went on a 12-to-2 run and captured the 32-31 lead to end the period.

Durant was still in the game. With 2:07 left on the clock, Caraway would hit a lay up to tie the game 39 apiece. However, the Lady Lions wouldn’t score for the rest of the game and loss 44-39.

Lady Lions road trip ends next Tuesday at Chickasha.
