Durant City Council held a special meeting Wednesday afternoon to add two more radio consoles to the upgrade of the communications equipment at the communications center and police station in Durant.

Council members met briefly to repeal resolution 2010-10 that passed in early April of this year. The council approved Resolution 2010-20, which will allow the law enforcement communications center to add the extra equipment.

The proposed communication enhancement is part of an Oklahoma Department of Commerce CDBG grant. The grant is for smaller cities like Durant and the center serves all of Bryan County.

“This was submitted in July as part of the funding necessary to complete the upgrade for the communications center and police station,” said Becca Parr, Grants Coordinator.

The council voted to commit a 65-percent local match for the upgrades. The CDBG grant will fund the upgrades while the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program competes nationally.
