DURANT — Kenzi Clapp’s 19 points led the Lady Lions to 48-33 victory over the Ardmore Lady Tigers on Tuesday night.
Lady Lions defense over powered the Lady Tigers, causing 26 turnovers and bad shot selections. Durant scored 13 points off of Ardmore’s miscues, while the Lady Lions offense couldn’t be stop.
The hot hand favored the Lady Lions in the first period and grabbed a lead that the Lady Lions would never give up.The Lady Lions began the game with a 10-3 run that ate up over 6 minutes. The Lady Tigers would stop the bleeding with a 3-pointer with 1:36 left, but Rheagan Jones stepped up and answered back with a 3-pointer at the end of the period and the Lady Lions led 13-6.
The rout continued in the second period. The Lady Tigers couldn’t find it’s shots as the Lady Lions outscored the Ardmore 14-5. Clapp and Morgan Steve led the way with 4 points apiece, Sierra Wilhite, Alexa Richards and Kylie Manning all pitched in 2 points apiece to give the Lady Lioins a 27-11 lead heading into half time.
Ardmore got into foul trouble early in the third period and sent the Lady Lions the free throw line 16 times in the second half. The Lady Lions would only make one bucket from the field in the second half.
“We got into the double bonus half way through the third quarter, we shot free throws for every foul for the rest of the game.” said coach Chad Rumer. Clapp scored 10 of her 19 points in the fourth period from the free throw line.
Ardmore tried to creep back into the game and with 4:00 minutes left, the score was 38-30. But the Lady Tigers still struggled with it’s shots and the Lady Lions put the game at the free throw line.
“At this point in the year, an win is a win and it gets our confidence up and move on to next week.” said Rumer.
Lady Lions scoring stats: Clapp 19 points, Steve 10 points, Jones 7 points, Richards 6 points, Wilhite 3 points and Manning 2 points.
The Lady Lions will face off against Chickasha on Jan. 18 with a 6:30 tip-off time.

In the third meeting of the year, the Durant Lions fell to it’s foe Ardmore Tigers on Tuesday night for the second time this year 46-35.
Cold shooting haunted Durant in the first period as Ardmore opened the game with a 6-0 run. Then the Lions found it’s shots and rolled out 8-2 run to tie the game at 8, but Ardmore bounced back with a 5-0 run and took a 14-8 lead into the second period.
The Lions fought back in the second quarter, but matched buckets with Ardmore. The Lions trailed 22-19 with 3:00 minutes left. Then Durant couldn’t make a bucket for the rest of the period and the Ardmore led at the half 27-20.
In the third period the Lions came roaring back to start the period. Durant outscored Ardmore 9-5 with 2:57 left in the period and cut into Ardmore’s 34-29, but the Lions still trailed 36-31 and were in a position for a come back in the fourth period. However the Lions only scored 4 points in the final frame of the game and loss 46-35.
Lions scoring stats: Cole Hughes 8 points, Sky Lowe 7 points, Zac Cater 6 points, James Donelan had 4 points and 6 blocks and Cameron Scheussler 4 points, Will Engle and Jalen Harris 2 points apiece.
Durant will face off against Chickasha on Jan. 18.
