Durant firefighters pulled two burning mattresses out of a vacant home Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:36 to a house at 1106 North Fifth Ave. after someone observed smoke coming from the home.

When firefighters arrived at the house, a small amount of smoke was showing. They made entry to the side and then the front doors.

Two burning mattresses were carried out the side door and put out.

The house, which had been converted to apartments, was vacant according to the fire department, and it had an electrical meter but the electricity was off.

Firefighters used fans to clear the house of smoke. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:04 that afternoon.
