According to the Oklahoma Insurance Department, many criminals see senior citizens as easy targets for scams such as Medicare fraud, funeral home trust fraud, contractor fraud and investment fraud.

The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is on a mission to teach seniors how to spot, avoid and fight fraud.

In order to help senior citizens, the OID will be hosting an anti-fraud conference for senior adults in the Durant area Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The event is free to senior citizens and costs $25 to law enforcement professionals seeking continuing education credits.

The Event is to be held in the Donald W. Reynolds Comm. Center 1515 W. Main St. A free breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. and presentations will begin at 8:30 a.m. ending at 11:30 a.m.

The event will feature local utility workers and law enforcement officials wearing their official uniforms in a “Fraud Fashion Show.”

These men and women will explain what to expect from legitimate home visits.
