A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a train Monday evening, according to Durant Police.

The 39-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was struck by a train at 6:05 p.m. on the South Ninth Avenue railroad tracks on mile north of Rodeo Road, according to Durant Police Lt. Chris Marcy.

The victim, who is homeless, was flown to a Plano, Texas, hospital and was in very critical condition at press time this morning.

According to Marcy, the woman was on the railroad tracks and as the train approached, the conductor blew the whistle. She then leaned up and laid back down on the tracks. The front of the locomotive thin hit her and flipped her off of the tracks.

Marcy said incident appeared to be an attempted suicide. Police were still seeking relatives of the woman to notify them about the incident.

I am the woman hit by this train. I was not homeless at the time. I would like to thank everyone for their prayers. I am recovering in Texas with my mother and step dad. My children are grateful for my life being spared. I have 3 living near Durant.Another 2 living in Texas. I was homeless this past Christmas but A special person accepted me into her home. I am afraid to live in Durant because I refuse to believe I did this as an attemted suicide. I was a Southeastern student until a tragedy happened (before thanksgiving,) that brought me to drop for the end of the semester. I am awaiting SSI approval so I can recieve medical assistance. Again thank you for your concern.
