County Commissioner Jay Perry along with the CED, ODOT and other county workers surveyed a portion of Old Caddo Highway last week.
Perry and the others traveled along the stretch of the old highway to determine how to go about repairing the road and what the cost will be.
The plan is to level the portion of Old Caddo Highway that stretches from Hat Powell Road in Caddo to the County line bordering Atoka County.
A grant from ODOT will be providing funds for the project. “We [Bryan County] would never have the money to do it,” said Perry. “That’s why we get them involved.”
Perry has already secured $1.2 million from ODOT for the project. Perry said this is possible through the money Governor Fallin had placed in the CIRD fund.
The project is set to begin in 2015 but work may start as early as July 2014. Perry said that a similar project is being planned for sections of Highway 70 as well.
Both of these projects are part of the county’s eight-year plan with ODOT. This plan consists of roads and bridges that ODOT will help the county repair.
The roads and bridged in the plan are projects that are otherwise beyond the county commissioners’ means to repair.
