The Lady Lions missed an opportunity to pick up a win Tuesday as Atoka went on a 23-12 fourth quarter run to slip past Durant 52-46.

The Lady Cats put three players in double figures, but trailed the Lady Lions until the final minutes of the game. Durant Coach Chad Rumer called it a tale of two halves.

“In the first half, we played well, went under the bucket and kept our turnovers down,” he said. “In the second half, we did little things here and there that added up. It’s one of those things we’ll learn from and get better in practice. We’re young and inexperienced and we’ve got to learn from those mistakes.”

Rylie Richards led the Lady Lions with 13 points and nine rebounds. Sierra Wilhite scored nine, Katie Caraway had seven points and seven boards, and Morgan Steve scored six on a pair of three-point plays in the third which built the Durant lead to double digits.

“I thought we did well on their big people,” Rumer said of the physical play of Steve and Richards. “Both of them were physical underneath and able to get some boards.”

Despite cold shooting in the first quarter, the Lady Lions took the early 11-10 lead. They shot smarter in the second, going 6-for-12 and taking a 24-17 lead at halftime. The lead hit eleven before Atoka made the run which would eventually undo Durant.

Other scorers for the Lady Lions: Rheagan Jones and Alexa Richards scored four each and Shelbi Barrett scored three. Durant (0-1) travels to Duncan for a 6 p.m. Friday game.
